China leads global green patent applications with over 50% of the global share

A recent report by the China National Intellectual Property Administration(CNIPA) reveals that China led the world in green and low-carbon patent applications in 2023, with a 20% year-on-year increase. These applications accounted for over half of the global total, exceeding the global average by 7.1%. Notably, China excelled in the energy storage sector, filing 37,000 patents, which represented 48% of the global total. In the clean energy field, China topped the world with 8,000 solar energy and 5,000 hydrogen energy invention patent applications. Additionally, China's green and low-carbon technology patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) surpassed 5,000, maintaining the global lead for the third consecutive year.
