With 3D high-definition vision system and a patent technology to provide surgeons with natural dexterity and a greater range of motion than the human hand, the first robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery system approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration made its China debut at the ongoing China International Import Expo.
This latest da Vinci surgery robot is equipped with a system with ten times magnification that delivers surgeons an immersive surgical experience, surpassing all other available surgical methods so far, according to the exhibitor Fosun Health.
With patented technology, there is an instrument in the surgery robot that includes a wide variety of heads to help the entire surgical procedures to be more precise.
Intuitive Surgical - Fosun Medical Technology (Shanghai) Co Ltd established in 2017 is an alliance between Fosun and Intuitive Surgical, the US-based developer of da Vinci surgical robot. The alliance aims to develop, manufacture, and sell the world's top-notch surgical robot products.
The alliance said it will manufacture cost-effective products for lung cancer, one of the most common cancer types in the world. Another bronchoscope navigation system with robot-assisted control to be marketed will be applied to the early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.
Marshall Mohr, executive vice-president and chief financial officer at Intuitive, said that such products reinforce the company's commitment to the China market over the long term.
"These innovations enable surgeons to access even narrower work spaces than before, while maintaining high-quality vision, precision, and control when performing minimally invasive surgery with da Vinci systems," he said.
Glenn Vavoso, senior vice-president and general manager for Asia and worldwide indirect business at Intuitive, said that the company's presence in China has continued to grow in exciting ways.
"Currently we have more than 170 da Vinci surgical systems in China, where the average utilization of da Vinci systems is among the world's highest, and to date over 170,000 procedures have been performed by Chinese surgeons," he said.
