Video conference held between CNIPA and the UK Intellectual Property Office

On November 24, Shen Changyu, director of the National Intellectual Property Administration, PRC, held a video conference with Tim Moss, Director of the British Intellectual Property Office. At the meeting, the two parties reviewed the cooperation between the two offices in recent years, discussed the content of future cooperation, and exchanged in-depth views on issues such as response to the Covid-19 epidemic, artificial intelligence, and patent and trademark review.

Shen Changyu introduced the latest developments in China’s intellectual property work, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the CNIPA actively responded to the epidemic, optimized intellectual property services, protected user rights, and strengthened international communication and collaboration, and the revision of China's patent law. He said that during the special period of the epidemic this year, the cooperation between China and Britain continues to expand. 2021 is the 25th anniversary of the cooperation between China and the UK. I hope that the two sides will take this opportunity to advance the collaboration between the two offices, so that the results of the cooperation can benefit more intellectual property users in China and the UK, and serve the innovation, and economic and social development of the two countries.

Tim Moss said that the current global economic development is highly dependent on intellectual property rights, and the UK attaches great importance to the development of intellectual property rights to ensure that market players obtain high-quality intellectual property protection. Britain and China have close trade exchanges, and intellectual property has become an important link. It is expected that the two offices will consolidate the momentum of cooperation in the future, further deepen cooperation and achieve more positive results.

After the meeting, Shen Changyu and Tim Moss signed the 2021 Work Plan of the National Intellectual Property Office, PRC and the UK Intellectual Property Office. According to the plan, the two bureaus will further strengthen cooperation in high-level exchanges, information sharing, and review services.
