On December 9, Shen Changyu, Director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, held a video meeting with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Shen Changyu congratulated Daren Tang on taking office as WIPO Director General and successfully forming a senior management team. He said that WIPO has overcome the impact of the global Covid-19 epidemic this year, achieved a smooth transition of leadership, and maintained smooth and efficient operation of various service systems. China highly appreciates this. This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's accession to WIPO. CNIPA has maintained a long-term friendly cooperative relationship with WIPO, and the depth and breadth of cooperation have been continuously expanded. It is hoped that both parties will continue to maintain close exchanges, further expand cooperation areas, improve cooperation levels, and maintain communication on major issues.
Daren Tang thanked CNIPA for its support to WIPO over the years. He said that in the past 40 years, China has made world-renowned achievements in the field of intellectual property, and has become an important intellectual property power and a leader in global innovation. Recently, Chinese leaders emphasized the need to comprehensively strengthen China’s intellectual property protection. China’s Patent Law and other Intellectual Property Laws have also been revised with the times, and the number of patent and trademark applications has continued to increase. These measures and progress are impressive. Daren Tang expressed his willingness to further strengthen the cooperation between WIPO and China in the future.
The two parties also had an in-depth exchange of views on the promotion and use of WIPO's Intellectual Property Service System in China, China's accession to the Hague Agreement on Industrial Designs, "One Belt One Road" intellectual property cooperation, intellectual property commercialization, and intellectual property's contribution to poverty alleviation. Gan Shaoning, deputy director of CNIPA, and Wang Binying, deputy director general of WIPO attended the meeting.
