91 Resources Net Case Settled and Sixteen Defendants were Sentenced

As reported on December 15th, the "91 Resources Net" series of websites were trialed by the Court for suspected infringement of the copyright of film and television works. Sixteen defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment and fined. After trial by the Xishui County Peoples Court, sixteen defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment for copyright infringement. Among them, the defendant Li was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 450,000 yuan.

In September 2018, the Hubei Provincial Public Security Department issued to the Xishui County Public Security Bureau the National Copyright Administration issued "http://91zy.cc, www.imeizy.com, www.91zyw.com" and other 91 resources series websites suspected of copyright infringement clue.

Over eight months, the police cracked this huge copyright infringement case, collected more than 100T of electronic evidence, shut down more than 500 suspected infringing film and television websites, arrested 18 persons involved in the case, and recovered more than 2.5 million yuan in illegal proceeds.

According to the police, without the permission of the copyright owner, the gang cooperated with others to use plug-in batch collection tools to re-post a large number of illegal channels, movies and TV series and other video resources to their own website for online viewing by netizens. In addition, rolling subtitle advertisements such as gambling websites and pornographic websites have been added to make illegal profits.

From 2014 to 2019, the gang illegally collected more than 100,000 movies and TV series.
