On December 31, China National Intellectual Property Administration and the National Bureau of Statistics jointly issued the "Announcement on the National Patent-intensive Industry Value Added Data in 2019". The announcement showed that the national patent-intensive industry added value in 2019 was 11,463.1 billion yuan, increasing over the previous year. 7.0% (excluding price factors, the same below), accounting for 11.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP), the same as the previous year.
Statistics show that the manufacturing-related industries in patent-intensive industries are large in scale, accounting for 72.9%; the service-related industries have developed rapidly. The growth rate is significantly higher than that of the manufacturing industry. Among the seven types of patent-intensive industries, the added value of new equipment manufacturing, information and communication technology manufacturing, and information and communication technology service industries is relatively high, which are 3.400.4 billion yuan, 2302.1 billion yuan, and 2282.3 billion yuan. They were 29.7%, 20.1% and 19.9%. The information and communication technology service industry, R&D, design and technical service industry, and the environmental protection industry grew the fastest, with year-on-year growth of 17.2%, 14.0% and 7.2% respectively.
According to the National Standard of "Statistical Classification of Intellectual Property (Patent) Intensive Industries (2019)", patent-intensive industries refer to the invention patent intensity and scale reaching the prescribed standards, relying on intellectual property rights to participate in market competition, and a collection of industries oriented to innovation and development. In 2019, the scale of China's patent-intensive industries maintained steady growth, reflecting the new progress in the optimization of China's economic structure and the transformation of growth momentum, reflecting the new results of innovation-driven development, and the important role of patent-intensive industries in supporting high-quality economic development has been further brought into play.
The head of the Strategic Planning Department of CNIPA stated that the development of patent-intensive industries reflects the close integration of intellectual property rights, technological innovation and industrial economic development. CNIPA and the National Bureau of Statistics attach great importance to related industry statistics, jointly established a patent-intensive industry added value accounting and release mechanism, and continuously improve statistical methods. It is the second consecutive year that annual value-added statistics have been released, which provides an important basis for timely reflection of industry cultivation and development and support for the formulation of industrial policies and plans.
