Looking ahead to the 2022 Winter Olympics------On the protection of Olympic intellectual property rights

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games is just around the corner. The venue construction and project testing are proceeding as scheduled, and all aspects of preparations are basically complete. At the same time, the protection of intellectual property rights for the Winter Olympics has also been put on the agenda.

  1. The trademark

Since 2017, the Organizing Committee for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games has applied for the registration of more than 2,000 trademarks with the State Intellectual Property Office in accordance with the application. Trademark names include proprietary names such as "Beijing 2022" and "Beijing2022"; The names of the mascots of the Winter Olympic Games are  "Bing Dun Dun", "Xue Rongrong"and their three-dimensional symbols.

  2. Copyright and special mark rights

    (1) Copyright

The emblem of the Winter Olympic Games stands out from the mass design works from all walks of life. It has a very high aesthetic value and a strong sense of design, so it is very important to protect the art works through copyright.

    (2) Special marks

Compared with the "randomness" of trademark names, the "Regulations on the Administration of Special Logo" has extremely strict restrictions on the registration of special logo names -- "name, emblem, mascot, etc."

So far, we can see that the intellectual property protection of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games has formed a four-in-one protection method of trademark, copyright, special symbol and Olympic symbol. I believe that under such a comprehensive legal protection, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be successfully held.
