The technology for making messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines shouldn’t be the ultimate barrier. Inactivated vaccines have also proven to work well, in China’s case. The technology used to develop inactivated vaccines is over 100 years old. Like China, many countries in the world have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, inactivated vaccines were not developed in most of them. Thus, we can see that it is no easy job to develop, manufacture, and distribute vaccines. It’s an all-round test for a country’s innovation, production, and capacity to integrate all its sources to tackle emergencies. Making vaccines available to as many people as possible needs very solid and hard work. Lip service will not create wonders. China has made perfect use of the traditional technology to make inactivated vaccines and effectively distribute them to its nationals. It’s a great achievement.
