The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) on November 25 announced the change in the currency of fees payable to the CNIPA of international applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). According to the agreement reached between the CNIPA and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), equivalent amounts of the international filing fee and the fee per sheet over 30 payable to the CNIPA have been established in yuan renminbi (CNY), in place of Swiss franc (CHF), with effect from December 1, 2021. The information about the updated amounts in CNY of those fees payable to the CNIPA will be available here.
China had its accession to the PCT, one of the key international agreements relating to patents, in 1994. The PCT provides the possibility to submit one international application instead of a separate application for each designated contracting state.
