Chinese electric vehicle maker WM Motor was hit with 7 million Yuan ($1 million) in compensation for misappropriating trade secrets involving several of rival Geely’s proprietary car parts drawings, according to news on Dec 27. Documents released by the Shanghai High People’s Court suggest that Geely filed a lawsuit in 2018 against WM Motor over its use of designs for multiple chassis parts and other alleged intellectual property violations, claiming RMB 21 billion in damages. The court recently ordered WM Motor to pay Geely RMB 7 million and stop using the trade secrets on its EX5 electric crossovers.
