Chinese battery maker CALB Group Co., Ltd. (CALB) has invalidated two invention patents owned by its rival Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), according to an announcement made by the company on Thursday. The China National Intellectual Property Administration(CNIPA) has made invalidated decisions on CATL’s two patents related to "lithium-ion battery" and "positive pole plate and battery", the announcement said. Since July 2021, CATL has filed several lawsuits against CALB, claiming infringement of five of its patents allegedly worthy of 647 million yuan in total. As for the above two disputed patents, CATL had sought 108 million yuan for compensation. In February 2023, the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court awarded CATL 57.1 million yuan and ordered the defendant CALB to stop selling the infringing products. CALB appealed the decision to the Supreme People's Court and filed an invalidation request to the CNIPA.
