The annual Luxury Law Summit in London was held on the evening of April 2, 2019, bringing together over 300 leaders and executives from luxury brands including LV and Gucci where the IP protection group of the Chinese giant Alibaba was awarded with the title of Innovator in IPRs and Technology.
Frederick Mostert, president of the Luxury Law Alliance and special expert of the WIPO stated that the IP protection group of Alibaba is establishing new golden standards for solving global online IP infringement problems by the means of the Internet technology and multi-governance which has become the leader and innovator in the area of the IP protection in the past 3 years.
Matthew Bassiur, vice president of Alibaba and person in charge of the WIPO presented on the summit that it was only promoting the technological measures in fighting counterfeiting constantly and making efforts to cooperate and jointly govern that can guarantee the best performance of IP protection through his 20-year experience of anti-counterfeiting.
Recently, China has established a comprehensive and high-standard IP legal system as well as a complete system of IP protection, operation and management covering from laws, regulations, policies and operating institutions which provides efficient protection for the innovations of foreign enterprises located in China.
It’s introduced by the IP protection group of Alibaba that 132 well-known brands from 16 countries & regions have joined the Alibaba Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance. Up to the end of 2018, 97% of complaints in online infringement submitted by the alliance right-holders were accepted and solved in 24 hours. The amount of money involved in the anti-counterfeiting cases which Alibaba assisted the police has reached about 3.6 billion Yuan.
Shen Changyu, director of the CNIPA stated that the year of 2019 will be marked as the opening year after China’s reformation in its IP institution when China will deepen its international cooperation on the area of IP and take an active part in the global governance.
