The Market of China’s Digital Copyright Industry Reached 742.3 billion Yuan in 2018

Recently, the Report on the Development of China’s Digital Copyright in 2018 (referred to Report hereafter) was published in Beijing by the Digital Copyright Industry Research Center of the National Copyright Administration of the PRC, which analyzed and explained the characteristics and growing trends of China’s digital copyright industry in 2018 deeply.

According to the Report, in 2018, the market of China’s digital copyright industry reached 742.3 billion Yuan, increasing by 16.6% compared with that of last year. From the year of 2006 to now, China’s digital copyright industry has kept its developing in high speed, turning to one of the core pillars for the revitalization of China’s copyright industry and an important engine to boost the digital economies development in China, which also played a decisive role in the international digital copyright industry.

The goals reached by China’s digital copyright industry were thought to be attributed to the constant improvement of the copyright environment of China and sustained innovation inside the industry according to the Report. After the ten-year efforts, the digital copyright industry of China was transformed from disorder to governance, the ideas of genuine operation and payment for genuine digital resources were popularized among the public and the business model driven by digital copyright payment and advertisement. Faced with the changing situation in 2018 home and abroad, China’s digital copyright industry took positive measures to adjust its structure, raise the quality of creation, arrange the layout for overseas market and employ innovative technologies. As a result, the market increased by hundred billions of Yuan compared with the market of 63.645 billion Yuan in 2017, realizing the robust development of the industry.

It was also noted the year of 2019 should be marked as the critical year for the development of China’s digital copyright, on basis of the strong copyright protection system construction after several years’ efforts. Meanwhile, the industry will also be boosted with the rise of the copyright awareness of users and their payment to genuine works. It can be predicted that with the emergence of original works with high qualities and constant innovation in technologies and business models, the industry will keep quickly developing in a more robust way.
