Lawyers Should Intervene the Whole Process of IP Protection Strategy

The regular press conference of April, 2019 by the All China Lawyers Association was held on the morning of May 1. During the conference, Wang Zhengzhi, director of the legal association on intellectual property professional committee of the All China Lawyers Association gave a detailed introduction on IP lawyers’ obligations for serving the national process of IP protection strategy.

According to Wang’s statement, with the emergence of self media like Wechat accounts and Weibo, there has been an increase in infringement disputes on copyrights of photos, articles and videos. And thus, it’s getting more important to protect IP rights legally to motivate scientific innovation and raise the international competition of China.

Wang stated that IP legislation has been constantly improving, the IP protection intensifying and the awareness of IP protection of the enterprises and the public  is also gradually increasing. Under the promotion of nationwide IP lawyers, the IP legal system of China has been much more perfected with the excellent IP cases like Tik Tok vs. Huopai and the infringement of NBA elements by the certain Chinese game company.

He also believed that as for IP legal service, the lawyers should not only intervene the dispute, but also the whole process of the IP protection strategy, which is needed to participate in the legislation positively home and abroad, broaden new fields, strengthen communication with the world and escort Chinese enterprises to go abroad.

He said that the legal association on intellectual property professional committee of the All China Lawyers Association would participate in the IP system construction in the following six fields: 1. Take part in the IP legislation; 2. Promote the IP system research; 3. Implement practical research on IP; 4. Intensify the cooperation with the IP related institutions; 5. Strengthen IP professional training; 6. Focus on the personal training for international IP talents.
