Owning Amount of Patents of Invention Reached 112 by Every 10,000 People in Beijing

On the recently held Press Conference of Beijing Intellectual Property Protection, it was told that in 2018, both quantities and qualities of Beijing IP creations was ranked among the top over the whole country. The total applications of patents of invention in Beijing reached 211,212, seven of which won the 20th Golden Prizes of Chinese Patent Technology, taking up 23.3% of the total number of the prizes.

Pan Xinsheng, deputy director of Beijing Intellectual Property Office & press spokesman, said that Beijing ranked fifth according to the World’s Largest Science and Technology Clusters survey in the 2018 Global Innovation Index Report published by the WIPO, which showed Beijing became a relatively energetic area in innovation and creativity.

Statistically, the annual applications of patents of Beijing, 2018 reached 211.21 billion of which were applications of patents of invention. Meanwhile, the authorizations of patents reached 12.34 billion of which were authorizations of patents of invention. It was worth mentioning that 7 of patents of invention won the 20th Golden Prizes of Chinese Patent Technology, taking up 23.3% of the total number of the prizes. Besides, owning amount of patents of invention reached 112 by every 10,000 people, which was 10 times greater than that of the national average.

To establish a most strict environment for IP protection, the intensity of fighting against infringement was deepened by the means of actions launched by Beijing IP law enforcement agencies in 2018. Beijing IP Office became more aggressive in regulating several domains like exhibitions and E-commercial platforms with the support of special actions like Thunder and Net Sword. As a result, the number of cases accepted in 2018 related to patents reached to 1,548, breaking 1,000 cases for the second year continuously, 299 of which were concerned with patent infringement and 1,249 of which were concerned with counterfeiting patents.

Olympic logo infringement, geographical indications and time-honored trademarks were key areas in law enforcement. In total, there were 2,406 cases concluded against trademark infringement or producing & selling counterfeited products, with the fined or confiscated money of 15.9 million Yuan, 123 cases on piracy infringement, 120 of which were concluded, with the fined or confiscated money of 1.58 million Yuan. 26,200 special law enforcement actions on consumer products, agricultural materials, building materials, auto parts and gasoline & diesel, 5,974 cases were concluded, with the fined or confiscated money of 7.68 million Yuan, and products involved of which were worth 15.78 million Yuan.
