It was revealed in the report that, the number of applications for environmental technology patents in China raised from 6,349 in 2008 to 52,245 in 2017, which increased by 7.23 times. The number of applications for environmental technology patents in China takes up 44.08% for the total number in the world during past ten years, which means China has become the most positive country in environmental technology, preceding Japan which ranked the second by about 30%.
The proportion of patent applications in China's environmental field is increasing year by year, which in 2016 and 2017 exceeded 70% in average, especially environmental technology patents. In the last ten years, the patents applied by institutes and labs in China have occupied 28.12% of the total number of environmental technology patents in China, which surpassed the global average of 17.76%.
It was also revealed by the report that China has become one of the key areas for the developed countries, such as European countries, the US and Japan, laying out their environmental technology patents. The portion of the patents applied by those countries takes up over 8% of the total number in China. Relatively, 96% of Chinese environmental technology patents are distributed domestically, the layout in foreign countries is still very short. There’s still a long way ahead for the export of Chinese environmental technologies.
