The Copyright Seminar between China and Britain held in Suzhou
The Chinese and British copyright seminar, co-sponsored by the National Copyright Administration of the People’s Republic of China, the British Intellectual Property Office, and the British Embassy in China, held in Suzhou. The conference focuses on the international copyright communication and cooperation under new circumstances, and introduces the two countries’ solutions and experience under internet copyright protection and the development of copyright industry. Cike Yu, director of Copyright Administration of the Ministry of Publicity in China, and Ross Lynch, director of Copyright and Intellectual Property Law Enforcement Department of the British Intellectual Property Office, delivered speeches respectively. Xiuling Zhao, vice director of the Copyright Administration of the Ministry of Publicity and Propaganda preside over the seminar.
During the seminar, Cihe Yu said that the information network technology has brought many new problems and challenges to copyright protection and application. Internationally, cooperation needs to be strengthened to promote construction of a more balanced and effective international copyright protection system. China is now building a steady intellectual copyright environment and strictly implement the strategy of copyright protection. Meanwhile, Britain has rich experience in internet copyright protection and development of creative industries that China and Britain can learn from each other. China has always been keen on pushing copyright protection and is willing to communicate and share information and experience with other countries. We hope that through this conference, we can further strengthen the copyright communication and cooperation between China and Britain.
In her speech, Rose Lynch said that creative industries play an important role in economic development and long-term mechanism needs to be built in order to protection copyright of creative content. She introduced that there are three goals that the British copyright protection are working toward, first is empowering British companies to guarantee the development of international service, second is to educate customers to respect intellectual copyright, last is to build effective and convenient dispute resolution mechanisms. Currently, Jiangsu is making many efforts in strictly striking piracy, promoting copyright public service, emphasizing demonstration and leading role, and focusing on the international copyright communication and cooperation in order to promote copyright protection in Jiangsu Province.
During the seminar, an annual intergovernmental conference of copyright was also held between China and Britain. It is understood that since 2010 when the State Copyright Administration of China and the British Intellectual Property Office first signed the Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation on Copyright, lose ties and good relations have been maintained between China and Britain, and copyright exchanges and cooperation have gradually deepened. Until the year of 2019, 6 sessions of the copyright seminar of China and Britain have been held and it has become an important platform for copyright communication between China and Britain.
Hundreds of representatives from copyright governmental departments of China and Britain, related international organizations, copyright collective management organizations and academia and industry participated the seminar.
