China’s AI Market will Exceed 57 Billion Yuan
AI + Education is Gaining Momentum
The 2019 Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence and Robots (GAIR) was held in Shenzhen. Xu Yangsheng, president of the summit, said that China has always attached great importance to the development of cutting-edge technologies of artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, and that it has become a national strategy to boost AI development. He said that as a strategic technology that would lead the future, AI was comprehensively empowering all walks of life, which would definitely promote a technological revolution and industrial transformation, gather huge energy and foster the development of social production factors.
A thriving industry dominated by application-oriented enterprises
In 2018, China's AI industry developed rapidly with a total of 2,167 relevant companies. AI enterprises can be categorized into three groups—basic enterprises, focusing on the research and development of AI chip, computer language and algorithm structure; technology-oriented enterprises, prioritizing the research and development of application algorithms such as computer vision, intelligent speech and natural language processing; and application-oriented enterprises, highlighting the integration and application development of AI technologies. According to the statistics released by China's research institute of the development strategy of the new generation of AI, Chinese AI enterprises are mostly application-oriented, and the other two kinds of enterprises account for a rather small proportion. Regarding types of technologies, many companies now engage in machine learning, big data, cloud computing and robotics.
AI-empowered industries, Education with great potential
In recent years, it has become imperative to apply AI technologies to the real economy. AI technologies are integrating with business models of traditional industries and business processes, showing a new industrial landscape in the era of intelligent economy. It is estimated that the scale of AI core industries will exceed 57 billion Yuan in 2019. At present, security and finance boast the largest market shares, accounting for 53.8% and 15.8% respectively. Industries, medical care and education, accounting for 11.6%, 4.2% and 4.0% respectively, have great potential.
