MIIT: Joint Efforts to Create an Open, Win-win 5G Industry Ecosystem
Chongqing, August 27 (China News Service) 5G Intelligent Future Summit was held in Chongqing on August 27. Han Xia, director of the Information and Communications Administration under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said that joint efforts would be made to create an open, win-win 5G industry ecosystem and establish international cooperation featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
According to Han Xia, as of July, altogether 18 countries and regions in the world had announced to provide 5G services or activate 5G networks. By the end of July, MIIT had issued 7 approvals for 5G equipment to access network and 370,000 network access licenses. Enterprises including Nokia, Ericsson and Qualcomm had participated in China’s 5G market.
Han Xia put forward four tasks to deepen the integration and innovative development of 5G with various industries and fields in economy and society.
First, the construction of a 5G network should be accelerated. Work should be done to encourage basic telecommunications enterprises to increase investment, provide 5G services as soon as possible and vigorously promote 5G application services. Besides, efforts should also be made to boost the joint construction and sharing of 5G networks and speed up the construction of a leading 5G network featuring nationwide coverage, advanced technology, good quality and high efficiency, so as to lay a solid foundation for 5G development.
Second, a new 5G industry ecology should be established. Relevant personnel should be market- and business- oriented, research and formulate a series of integration standards and policies for guiding 5G cross-industry application, further advance the integration and development of 5G with vertical industries and fields such as manufacturing, transportation, medical treatment, education, energy and agriculture, as well as foster a number of demonstration enterprises.
Third, a 5G development environment should be created, through strengthening policy coordination in terms of 5G standard formulation, application promotion, industry management, security and resource allocation, promoting cross-sector, cross-regional and cross-industry cooperation, and intensifying policy support in science and technology, finance, taxation, talented people and intellectual property rights (IPR).
Fourth, open 5G cooperation should be deepened. It is imperative to expand common interests in opening up, share opportunities in cooperation, strengthen cooperation with relevant countries and international institutions, further reach 5G international consensus in an all-round way, work together to create an open, win-win 5G industry ecosystem, and strive to create new international cooperation with extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
