SHARP, the Japanese electronics company, has been actively filing patent infringement cases in recent months, accusing U.S. TV brand Vizio Inc and Chinese smartphone maker OPPO.

On March 10th, SHARPfiled the lawsuit in a US District Court in California against Xianyang CaiHong Optoelectronics Technology Co (CHOT), Vizio and one other companies over alleged patent infringement. SHARP claims that the companies infringed 12 patents related to panel technologies, like liquid crystal displays (LCD). In particular, SHARP says one of Vizio's 70-inch TVs is an offender. SHARP is seeking an injunction, as well as compensation for lost profits and the use of its technology.

On March, SHARP has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the Japanese unit of Tesla Inc, seeking an injunction to halt imports of some electric vehicles (EV) to Japan. The lawsuit alleged that mobile communications equipment installed in some Tesla models violate patents owned by SHARP, including Tesla’s Model S, Model 3 sedans and Model X sport-utility vehicle.

Apart from the lawsuits above, SHARP has filed a lawsuit for patent infringement against Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd and OPPO Japan in the Tokyo District Court on March 6 and 9, 2020, accusing them of infringing several of its 4G/LTE patents covering communication technologies used in smartphones. SHARP announced on April 7 that it has filed a lawsuit against Taiwan's OPPO mobile phone importer in the Taiwan Intellectual Property Court and requested that the sale of OPPO mobile phones be banned in Taiwan.
