On September 18, Shen Changyu, director of the National Intellectual Property Administration of the People's Republic of China, visited Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, to investigate the work of intellectual property rights. They also discussed trademarks and geographical indications. Sun Jusheng, Vice Governor of Jiangxi Provincial Government, attended the symposium.
At the symposium, Jiangxi province and Ganzhou city introduced the intellectual property work of trademarks and geographical indications. Shen Changyu spoke highly of the meeting and exchanged views with representatives of government departments, enterprises and industry associations. He said that the National Intellectual Property Administration would continue to support Jiangxi's IPR work and cooperate with Jiangxi to explore practical ways for IPR to boost innovative development, promote opening-up and alleviate poverty in old revolutionary base areas, to provide strong support for Jiangxi's high-quality economic development.
Shen Changyu pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the Central Committee attaches great importance to the construction of trademarks and geographical indications. Especially in the context of 2020's COVID-19 epidemic, the Central Government has proposed accelerating the formation of a new pattern of development in which domestic and international cycles play a significant role, and domestic and international cycles reinforce each other.
Trademark brand building and geographical indication work are of great significance for giving play to the strategic fulcrum of expanding domestic demand. To implement the important directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the National Intellectual Property Administration has taken active measures to further implement the trademark and brand strategy and the project to promote the use of geographical indications, and made positive progress.
Shen stressed that we should continue to take multiple measures to promote the sustainable and healthy development of trademark and geographical indications. First, we will improve relevant laws and regulations, speed up the launch of a new round of amendments to the Trademark Law and the Implementation Regulations, promote special legislation on geographical indications, and strengthen the protection of trademarks and geographical indications.
Second, we will strengthen examination services and comprehensive supervision, continue to improve the quality and efficiency of trademark examination, and further reduce the trademark examination review cycle, strengthen the monitoring and handling of malicious trademark applications through big data and other technical means, strengthen the protection of well-known trademark brands, and promote administrative law enforcement and judicial cooperation.
Third, promote social co-governance, increase publicity of trademarks and geographical indications in accordance with the law, and create a favorable environment for the development of trademark work and the geographical indications industry.
We should strengthen the supervision of the trademark agency, promote the industry's self-discipline, and make trademark registration return to its source.
Sun Jusheng said that at present, the construction of Jiangxi province with strong characteristic intellectual property had shown a new and encouraging situation. Various indexes of intellectual property creation in Jiangxi province are higher than the national average level, patent quality and structure are continuously optimized, trademark brand construction and geographical indication work are making solid progress, and the status of enterprise innovation subject has been significantly improved.
It is hoped to further strengthen the cooperation and consultation with the National Intellectual Property Administration, jointly promote the construction of Jiangxi province with strong characteristic intellectual property rights, and promote the high-quality development of Jiangxi's economy and society.
