Sharp and Daimler agree to license LTE Communication Standard Patent

Sharp, the Japanese company owned by Hon Hai Corporation, announced yesterday that it had reached an agreement with the car-maker Daimler, to license the LTE communications standard that covers the vast majority of its vehicles.
Earlier in mid-2019, Sharp filed five patent infringement lawsuits against Daimler in the Munich District Court and sought an injunction. In early September, the Munich District Court ruled in Sharp's favor, ruling in favor of the company's claims for damages and injunction.
Sharp has contributed to the development of core technologies for mobile communications (including 3G, 4G and 5G) for more than 20 years, according to the patent licensing agreement between the two companies. Sharp's 3G / 4G / 5G SEP portfolio now includes more than 6,000 patents that provide value for 3G / 4G / 5G products.
Meanwhile, Sharp said it has licensed LTE communications standard patents to a number of companies, continues to expand the number of licensees and continues to license LTE communications standard patents to all locations under fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory conditions.
