At the 2019 China Copyright Service Annual Meeting held in Beijing on March 28th, the Copyright Protection Center of China issued the 2018 Analysis Report on the Registration of China's Software Copyright (the report). The report showed that China had a total of 1,104,839 copyright registrations of computer software, a year-on-year increase of 48%, exceeding one million for the first time.
According to the report, software copyright refers to the exclusive rights developers and other shareholders have to the software in accordance with relevant copyright laws. As China aims to become an innovative country and a world technology power, and with the help of national policies combined with rising demand, its software innovation is improving by leaps and bounds.
The report also showed that in 2018, the number of China’s registered hotspot software, such as APP software, game software, financial software, educational software, medical software, IOT software, geographical software and cloud computing software, were higher than that of the last year. It’s worth noting that the number of APP software increased by 76%, accounting for about 25% of the total amount, making it one of the fastest growing hotspot software in China. Guangdong Province had nearly 270,000 registered software, accounting for 24% of China's total registration, ranking the first for three consecutive years.
The meeting also unveiled the Top Ten Chinese Copyright Owners in 2018 which Taiji Computer Corporation Limited, China National Software, China Education Television, SIASUN Robot & Automation, iReader Technology, Xinhua Net, China Wenxuan Movie&TV Culture, Haier, POP Mart, Block 12 Culture were elected.
The person in charge of the Copyright Protection Center of China extended the strong hope that the society could respect originality and knowledge and encourage innovation by integrating digital information technology and eulogizing inspiring innovations and innovators so as to build a country with a strong copyright regime.
